It has come to my attention that some people sit for trance alone, this is something I personally do not agree with, you should always be under the supervision of a trained medium. In Saying that you can sit for the trance energy but not to speak, just to be in the energy of your guides. To let them work on what needs working on in preparation for when you sit in circle.
Some people find it hard to visualise, they see colours or the odd glimpse of something, everyone is different. Do not be hard on yourself if this happens to you as you are not alone. Spirit are still working with you in every sense. Remember you are unique, please don't compare your jouney with anybody else. I feel it important to keep a diary because quite often something will happen that you saw or heard in meditation and it is confirmed later.
There are a few different ways to open up to start your meditation, you can open your energy centres or chakras, visualise a flower opening, a gate opening or a door. I personally say a prayer asking for the highest and purest. To close, you just reverse the process and thank our spirit friends for coming. Closing is important to do or you will find yourself becoming ultra sensitive in your material life. You wouldn't leave home with your front door open would you? It's the same principle.
If you wish to develop more, for any form of mediumship I recommend you find a development circle, where you will be with like-minded people and a trained medium, this will really help your progress.
Chief YellowHawk's Prayer
O Great Spirit, Whose voice I hear in the winds, and whose breath gives life to all the world, hear me, I come before you, one of your children. I am small and weak. I need your strength and wisdom. Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made, my ears sharp to hear your voice. Make me wise so that I may know the things you have taught my people, the lesson you have hidden in every leaf and rock. I seek strength not to be superior to my brothers, but to be able to fight my greatest enemy, myself. Make me ever ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes, so when life fades as a fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.
